Laser Ablation Inductively Coupled Plasma Mass Spectrometry (LA-ICP-MS)

Principle

A laser beam is focused and irradiated onto the surface of a solid sample, and the sample aerosol produced by ablation is transported to the ICP by a carrier gas. It is decomposed and ionized in the ICP. The resulting ions are measured by a mass spectrometer. Since the area ablated by the laser beam is measured, localized information can be obtained.
