Gas Chromatography : GC
Gas Chromatography/Mass Spectrometry : GC/MS

Principle

Gas chromatography (GC) is a chromatographic technique for separating a mixture of multiple components into a single component by using a gas as the mobile phase.
GC separation of each component is mainly based on the difference in vapor pressure of the analyte and the affinity of the compound to the column stationary phase.
Flame ionization detector (FID) is commonly used to detect each separated component. The instrument using mass spectrometer as the detector is a gas chromatography/mass spectrometer (GC/MS).
